Q. Why are we changing our phone system ?
 
A. The current Ealing based phone system is end of life product and cannot cope with the increased demand of the  University. With this in mind the agreed course of action was to extend the Alcatel Lucent IP Telephony System already being used at Paragon House to the Ealing based campuses. 
 
 
Q. What benefits does the IP Telephony System provide ? 
 
A. The benefits are:
                 -  Replacement of old phones with additional functionality
                             -  LCD Display
                             -  Ease of use - Transferring calls from 1 system
                             -  Integrated function with Hunt / Pickup Groups from 1 system
                             -  Activation of voicemail based on busy or when you need to divert to 
                                 voicemail
                             -  Last number re-dial
                             -  Self programmable soft buttons for abbreviated numbers / short dial
                             -  Call back facility
                 -  Single telephone directory
                             -  Via phone (Dial by Name)
                             -  Directory via web 
                             -  Integration with the UWL Staff Intranet 
 
 

A. For an external call dial 9 and then the telephone number.

 

Q. I need to use touch Tones when on call ?

A. Only when on a call /on a per call basis, either: Use the navigator (if necessary) and press Send DTMF in the screen when on an external call to send tones or press F1

 

Q. How do I transfer a call ?

A.   Dial the extension number, or the external number (prefixed with a 9) and announce the call if applicable.  To transfer simply press release, replace the handset or press Transfer in your display.

 

Q. How do I find out my telephone number?

A. Using the navigator key, use the right arrow key to the info page to display your details. Please do not write or stick anything on the handset

 

Q.  A 'Trust' Headset was provided, what is this for?

A. This headset is provided for you to use on your PC so that you may listen to any voicemails from within your outlook client.

 

Q.  Why do I need to listen to my voicemail on my PC ?
 
A. Any voicemail messages left on your phone is sent your university email account. This can then be listened from your desktop PC, laptop or from your smartphone. The voicemail is sent as a WAV file attachment.
 
  
Q.  Is there anything we as staff can do to help ?
 
A. Yes, attend the training sessions mentioned on the site and or spend time looking at the customised training video's and guides on this site.
